Cité Durmar

landmark

The Cité Durmar is an alleyway paved in cobblestones, tucked behind a heavy wooden gate on the rue du Chemin Vert. It holds a collection of low, red-brick workshops and small houses that look entirely unlike the grand stone apartment buildings surrounding them. Back in eighteen-forty-eight, a local merchant named Durmar bought this plot to house his workers and their small-scale industrial businesses. He crammed dozens of people and their looms into these quiet, cramped brick quarters, removed from the city's main thoroughfares.
