Hôtel du Timbre

The Hôtel du Timbre features a distinct, ornate facade on Rue de la Banque, carved with rows of circular stone medallions representing postage stamps. Originally built in eighteen seventy-seven, this building served as the headquarters for the state administration responsible for issuing stamps and managing government paper. An official named Albert Girault designed the structure to project the permanence of the French Republic. He insisted on incorporating these sculpted stamps into the exterior walls to declare the office's purpose to everyone passing by.
