The Musée de la Sculpture en Plein Air lines the edge of the Seine with stone and metal figures bolted to concrete plinths. It began in nineteen eighty when a group of artists convinced the city to turn this thin strip of Quai Saint Bernard into an open-air gallery. They wanted art to exist without the filter of a museum wall or a ticket booth. Today, works by sculptors like Ossip Zadkine and César Baldaccini sit exposed to the river spray and the weather.
