The square Théodore-Monod features a concrete wall embedded with fragments of shells and fossils. It occupies a space that once held the rail tracks of the Petite Ceinture, a circular line that skirted Paris for over a century. When the city converted the tracks into public parkland, planners kept the sharp, sunken topography of the old rail bed. A traveler once found a fossilized tooth here, likely carried in with the construction fill used to level the ground.
