Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe

The Odeon Theatre de l Europe stands on ground that was once the garden of the Hotel de Conde, a private mansion demolished in seventeen seventy-nine. When the theater was inaugurated by Marie-Antoinette in seventeen eighty-two, it became the first monument in Paris constructed specifically and exclusively for theatrical performance. Its neoclassical architecture, defined by imposing Doric columns, was intended to honor Apollo as the leader of the Muses. The building serves as a resilient survivor of history, having been rebuilt twice following devastating fires in seventeen ninety-nine and eighteen eighteen.
