Église Saint-Sulpice

The twin stone towers of Saint-Sulpice rise unevenly against the skyline, with the northern tower stopping short of the southern one’s height. This massive structure replaced a twelfth-century parish church to accommodate the growing population of the Left Bank. In seventeen twenty-six, the architect Servandoni designed a grand portico, but his vision for completion vanished when he died mid-project. His successors argued over the final design, leaving the towers forever mismatched, a permanent record of their failure to agree on the plans.
