Medici Fountain

The Medici Fountain stretches out as a long, narrow pool framed by high stone walls and overhanging plane trees. Queen Marie de Medici commissioned the fountain in sixteen thirty to mimic the water features she remembered from her childhood in Florence. She wanted a piece of Italy in her adopted home of Paris. While the fountain has moved from its original location and endured several periods of neglect, it remains a quiet, shaded retreat built specifically for a homesick queen.
