Hôtel de Chevreuse

The Hotel de Chevreuse is defined by the heavy, arched stone carriage gate that breaks the austere facade along the rue Saint-Dominique. Built in the early eighteenth century for the Duke of Luynes, it served as a private residence for the French aristocracy before the Revolution. Anne Marie Martinozzi, a niece of Cardinal Mazarin, lived here earlier, and the house eventually became the residence of the Duchess of Chevreuse. It remains a rare, preserved example of the grand aristocratic townhouses of the Faubourg Saint-Germain.
