À la Mère de Famille

The green wooden storefront of À la Mère de Famille stands out with its gold-leaf lettering and large glass windows. Established in seventeen sixty-one, this shop holds the title of the oldest confectionary in Paris. Pierre Jean Bernard opened the doors to sell groceries and chocolates to the local gentry. He passed the business down through generations of his own family, who kept the mahogany counters and tile floors unchanged. The shop still serves the same almond dragées that customers bought here two centuries ago.
