The Grande Synagogue de Paris, also known as the Synagogue de la Victoire, features a towering Romanesque facade punctuated by a massive rose window. Designed by Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe and completed in eighteen seventy-four, it served as the spiritual center for the city's growing Jewish community after the French Revolution granted them full citizenship. When Captain Alfred Dreyfus was falsely accused of treason in the eighteen nineties, he worshipped in these very pews, unaware that the building would soon host his public rehabilitation ceremony.
