Passage Jouffroy

other

Passage Jouffroy features a glass and steel roof that runs in a zig-zag pattern above the walkway. It opened in eighteen forty-six as the first Parisian passage built primarily with metal and glass components. During its construction, workers discovered that the existing Passage des Panoramas across the street brought in so many shoppers that investors rushed to complete this connection. Baron Haussmann later cleared nearby blocks, but this narrow corridor survived the demolition of the surrounding neighborhood through sheer popularity.
