Salle Le Peletier

The Salle Le Peletier stands out as the former home of the Paris Opera, defined by its flat, unassuming facade on rue Le Peletier. Before the grand Palais Garnier replaced it, this building held the stage for the premieres of legendary works like Faust. In eighteen fifty-eight, an anarchist named Felice Orsini threw three bombs at the imperial carriage right outside the entrance, hoping to assassinate Napoleon the Third. The building survived, but the opera moved away following a fire in eighteen seventy-three.
