Musée Grévin

The Musée Grévin owes its existence to a missing technology. When it opened in eighteen eighty two, photography was not yet a standard part of the newspaper industry. Arthur Meyer, the director of the daily paper Le Gaulois, grew frustrated that his readers could not see the faces of the figures filling his columns. He teamed up with the caricaturist and sculptor Alfred Grévin to bring these newsmakers to life in three dimensions, creating a physical hall of fame for the public.
