Galerie Vivienne

Galerie Vivienne serves as one of the most elegant survivors of a bygone era in Parisian urban design. Built in eighteen twenty-three, this covered shopping arcade was commissioned by Louis-Auguste Marchoux, the President of the Chamber of Notaries, to lure wealthy shoppers away from the nearby bustling streets. Architect François-Jacques Delannoy designed the space in a sophisticated neoclassical Pompeian style, creating a sheltered, light-filled corridor that remains a distinct escape from the city outside.
