Le Chat Noir is recognized as the world's first modern cabaret. Its founder, a failed painter named Rodolphe Salis, opened the doors in eighteen eighty-one with a vision to create a space where art and nightlife could collide. Unlike the rowdy music halls of the era, Salis designed this venue to act as a salon for the bohemian avant-garde, where patrons sat at tables and were served entertainment alongside their drinks.
