The building you are approaching began its life in the late eighteenth century as a simple waystation. By the mid-nineteenth century, it had earned a dark reputation under the name Cabaret des Assassins, a title inspired by the grim portraits of famous murderers that adorned its interior walls. Legend says the venue acquired this macabre moniker after a band of criminals broke in and killed the owner's son during a robbery.
