Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord

The Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord was constructed in eighteen seventy-six on the foundations of a barracks that was never completed. In its earliest years, the venue struggled significantly because its location on the edge of Paris was considered far too remote for the theater-going public of the time. The theater suffered through a chaotic series of ownership changes, including one manager named Olga Léaud who reportedly fled the city with the contents of the theater safe after her productions failed to attract an audience.
