Le Trianon (theatre)

Le Trianon stands at eighty Boulevard de Rochechouart, built on the former garden site of the Élysée Montmartre ballroom. It first opened in eighteen ninety-four as a café-concert, a type of venue where patrons could enjoy music while seated at tables with drinks. After a fire destroyed much of the original structure in nineteen hundred, it was rebuilt in its current elegant, Italian-style theater form, which opened in nineteen hundred and two. The architect behind this reconstruction, Joseph Cassien-Bernard, was a student of the legendary Charles Garnier and had also worked on the design of the Pont Alexandre-III bridge. He gave the facade a design explicitly inspired by the Grand Trianon at Versailles, lending a touch of royal architectural grandeur to this bustling neighborhood at the foot of Montmartre.
