The name was chosen specifically to help English-speaking tourists find the establishment by translating the street number into English. Behind its sober, understated facade, the building functioned as an elaborate, multi-story stage for curated fantasies. It was founded in 1924 by Marcel Jamet and his wife, a former courtesan who applied her intimate knowledge of the industry to create a destination that functioned like an immersive, adult-themed park.
