The building you are approaching, the Fondation Dosne-Thiers, occupies a mansion with a volatile past. During the Paris Commune of 1871, the original structure on this site was completely destroyed by insurgent forces because it belonged to Adolphe Thiers, the statesman who led the government against them. The current building you see today was reconstructed shortly after in 1873, rising from the rubble of that political firestorm to serve as a grand, defiant testament to the establishment.
