Square Santiago du Chili

The Square Santiago du Chili was created in eighteen sixty-five as part of the extensive urban redesign led by the engineer Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand. It sits quietly on the edge of the sprawling Invalides complex, occupying a corner space that was once part of the open plain of Grenelle. The park owes its name to the diplomatic ties between France and Chile, serving as a peaceful green counterpart to the more formal military grounds nearby. Some of the trees standing here today have been in this spot for over a century and a half.
