Abbey of Saint Genevieve

The Abbey of Saint Genevieve features a massive, neoclassical dome that dominates the skyline of the Latin Quarter. This structure sits on the site where Clovis, the first King of the Franks, established a monastery to house the relics of the city patron saint in the sixth century. During the French Revolution, the site underwent a major transformation when the revolutionary government converted the abbey church into the Pantheon, a secular mausoleum intended to honor heroes of the nation rather than saints of the church.
