The Musée de la Préfecture de Police hides behind a plain wooden door inside the third arrondissement police station. It holds the grim archives of Parisian crime, starting with the seventeenth-century poisonings that terrified the court of Louis the Fourteenth. The collection grew from a display of police equipment at the nineteen hundred universal exhibition. You will find handwritten letters from famous criminals, guillotine blades, and records of the city's most notorious murders, all gathered by the officers who investigated them.
