The corner building at the intersection of Rue des Rosiers and Rue Ferdinand Duval wears a distinctive, pale facade that once housed Chez Jo Goldenberg. For decades, this Jewish deli served pickled herring and pastrami to a neighborhood defined by its Yiddish history. On August ninth, nineteen eighty-two, a group of men entered the dining room, threw a grenade, and opened fire with submachine guns. Six people died, and twenty-two were wounded in an attack that remains unsolved to this day.
