Maison de Victor Hugo

The Maison de Victor Hugo sits behind a red brick facade on the Place des Vosges, set apart from the gray stone that characterizes the rest of the square. Inside these walls, Hugo finished writing Les Miserables and hosted elaborate dinners where he served coffee to his guests on a gold service he designed himself. He lived here for sixteen years before fleeing into exile. The house holds his personal furniture, his ink-stained desk, and the heavy velvet curtains he chose for his bedroom.
