The Hôtel de Soubise features a courtyard enclosed by a curved colonnade of twin Corinthian columns. It houses the French National Archives, preserving millions of documents spanning from the seventh century to the present. In seventeen seventeen, the Prince of Soubise bought this mansion and hired architect Germain Boffrand to transform it. Boffrand created the oval salon inside, a space still decorated with original gilded carvings and paintings. During the French Revolution, the state seized the property to store its records.
