Place de Wagram

You are standing at the Place de Wagram, a crossroads that anchors the seventeenth arrondissement. Long before these stone facades rose, this land served as a royal hunting ground known as the Couronnes, where game was strictly reserved for the king. By the mid-nineteenth century, the area shifted from wild woodland to a centerpiece of urban expansion, officially taking its current name in 1868 to honor Napoleon the First's decisive victory over the Austrian army at the Battle of Wagram.
