Porte des Ternes de Paris

The name Ternes comes from a medieval farm known as Villa Externa. This estate was situated well outside the city walls, belonging to the Bishop of Paris as a rural retreat. Over centuries, the Latin name shifted through linguistic evolution from Externa to Estern, eventually settling as Ternes. This site transformed from a humble, isolated farmhouse into the heart of a district that defines the elegance of the seventeenth arrondissement today.
