Grande Volière

The Grande Volière is a striking piece of Second Empire architecture that has stood in the Jardin d Acclimatation since eighteen sixty. Designed by Gabriel Davioud, who was the leading architect of that era, the structure is crafted entirely from metal and intricate decorative ironwork. It was built during a time when the park was dedicated to the scientific study and acclimatization of exotic animal species, reflecting a nineteenth century fascination with displaying flora and fauna from across the globe. Today, the aviary serves as a specialized home for birds from various biogeographical regions, including lorikeets from Australia and Indonesia, allowing visitors to walk inside the enclosure to see them up close.
