Pont de Neuilly

The history of this river crossing began with a near-fatal accident. In June of sixteen hundred and six, King Henri the Fourth and his wife, Queen Marie de Medici, were traveling by carriage when their ferry capsized in the middle of the Seine. This narrow escape from drowning led directly to the construction of the first bridge at this site, replacing the dangerous ferry service with a permanent wooden structure.
