Île de la Jatte

The name of this island, Ile de la Jatte, likely derives from its distinct shape, as the word jatte refers to a bowl or a boat of that form. Centuries ago, this slender strip of land was part of the royal estate of the Duke of Orléans, who lived at the nearby Château de Neuilly. In the early nineteenth century, the island served primarily as a private park for his family, accessible only by boat.
