Vélodrome Buffalo and Stade Buffalo

The Vélodrome Buffalo occupies the site of a former gas works in Neuilly-sur-Seine. It stands out because of the steep, wooden cycling track that defined the landscape of French sport at the turn of the twentieth century. In eighteen ninety-six, the rider Henri Desgrange set the world hour record here, covering over thirty-five kilometers in one go. The roar of the crowds during these races could be heard for blocks, turning the old industrial ground into the loudest corner of Paris.
