Liberation of Paris

The Musée de la Libération de Paris is marked by the large, bronze sculpture of a flame at the Place Denfert-Rochereau. This building houses the history of the nineteen forty-four liberation from Nazi occupation. Beneath the museum lies a hidden network of tunnels that served as the secret headquarters for Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, who directed the resistance fighters from this bunker. Maps still pinned to the stone walls show the tactical positions his forces occupied while the city fought to reclaim its streets.
