The Musée Gaumont sits behind a sleek, unassuming facade in Neuilly-sur-Seine, preserving the archives of the oldest film company in the world. Leon Gaumont founded the studio in eighteen ninety-five, the same year the Lumiere brothers held their first public screening. While others focused on short documentaries, Gaumont hired Alice Guy-Blache, the first female filmmaker, who turned the studio into a hub for narrative storytelling. Her presence at the camera early on defined the company, pushing it toward fiction long before the industry followed suit.
