Ancien Château des Ternes

The Ancien Château des Ternes sits behind a high stone wall, distinguished by a curved, slate-covered roofline that contrasts sharply with the apartment blocks nearby. Originally built in the seventeenth century, this structure served as the country residence for wealthy financiers and aristocrats escaping the city. In eighteen forty-eight, a local landowner named André-Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri purchased the estate. Disdéri used the grounds to test his early photography techniques, capturing images that helped him pioneer the paper-based portrait, which eventually revolutionized the industry.
