Parc Monceau

Parc Monceau features an elegant rotunda at its main entrance and a landscape designed to mimic a natural forest rather than a formal garden. Originally commissioned by the Duke of Chartres in seventeen seventy-eight, it served as a private pleasure ground filled with follies like a miniature pyramid and a Roman colonnade. When the revolution took hold, the space briefly became a public square, but eventually reverted to aristocratic hands before the city of Paris finally bought it in eighteen sixty-two.
