Hôtel de Ville, Levallois-Perret

The Hôtel de Ville of Levallois-Perret sits behind a facade of ornate stonework, defined by a central clock tower topped with a prominent wrought-iron lantern. When the commune formed in eighteen sixty-six, the village needed a municipal seat to serve a rapidly growing population of industrial workers. Architect Jules Depasse designed this building to project confidence during that expansion. In eighteen ninety-nine, the council ordered the installation of a gilded statue of a woman representing the Republic, which still watches over the square today.
