La maison jaune - trompe l'oeil

La maison jaune is a striking example of the trompe l oeil tradition that defines the cityscape of Levallois Perret. Completed in September two thousand three, this mural spans more than six stories in height and functions as a deliberate optical illusion. The artist Alexandre Banu designed the facade to include eighteen intricately painted windows and three ground floor doors, all of which appear three dimensional from the street. The bright yellow color was chosen specifically to introduce a sense of light and cheer to the urban corridor. This mural serves as one of many such installations commissioned by the city to transform otherwise blank and lifeless walls into vibrant public art.
