Hôtel de Ville, Neuilly-sur-Seine

The Hôtel de Ville of Neuilly-sur-Seine features a steep mansard roof and a central clock tower that dominates the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. Completed in eighteen eighty-six, this building replaced an older town hall that had become too cramped for a rapidly growing suburb. During the nineteenth century, Mayor Edouard Nortier pushed for the project to signal the town’s prosperity. He managed to secure the site despite fierce opposition from residents who wanted to preserve the open square for markets and local festivals.
