Monument to the Glory of Émile Levassor

The monument to Émile Levassor features a bronze likeness of the man resting on a stone base, placed right at the edge of the Porte Maillot. Levassor was a pioneer of the automobile, and this spot marks the end of the nineteen ninety-five Paris to Bordeaux race. He drove that race himself, crossing the finish line after forty-eight hours of continuous driving. He collapsed from exhaustion shortly after, and he died of his injuries less than two years later.
