The Fondation Louis Vuitton sits in the northern corner of the Bois de Boulogne, resting on the exact footprint of a former bowling alley that once occupied this parkland. When architect Frank Gehry first conceived the project, he was restricted by strict zoning laws that mandated he keep the building within the height and volume of the previous structure. To bypass this limitation, he designed a secondary, expansive glass canopy that floats above the core building. This clever workaround transformed a simple gallery space into a towering glass vessel that appears to drift through the surrounding treetops.
