Square Joan of Arc

The square you are approaching holds a quiet history that traces back to the mid-nineteenth century. Originally known as the Inkermann roundabout, the space was named for a battle during the Crimean War in eighteen fifty-four. It underwent a significant transformation in the mid-twentieth century when local leaders sought to honor figures associated with the liberation of France. During a city council meeting in December of nineteen forty-four, the area was formally renamed to honor Joan of Arc.
