Square du Chanoine-Viollet

The Square du Chanoine-Viollet is named after Jean Viollet, a French Catholic priest who dedicated his life to improving conditions for the working class in this neighborhood during the early twentieth century. He founded an organization called the Moulin-Vert works, which focused on creating affordable housing and providing social support for families in need. Beyond his charitable work, Viollet was later recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations for his bravery during the Second World War. During the spring of 1944, he secretly hosted the meetings of the National Council of the Resistance inside his home on the nearby Rue de Gergovie.
