Embassy of the United States, Paris

The United States Embassy in Paris occupies a triangular block defined by sharp stone corners and rows of tall, rectangular windows. It sits on the site of the former Hotel de Crillon gardens and became the official chancery in nineteen thirty-three. During the Second World War, the building served as the headquarters for the German naval command in Paris. When Allied forces liberated the city, the building returned to American control, leaving behind bullet holes in the exterior masonry that remained visible for years.
