Hotel de la Marck

The Hotel de la Marck wears a distinct, austere limestone facade on the Rue de la Pepiniere. Count Auguste de la Marck commissioned the building in the late eighteenth century, intending it to serve as a private residence for his family. During the French Revolution, the count fled the country, leaving his home behind to be seized by the state. It eventually housed the embassy of Belgium, where diplomats spent decades navigating the shifting political landscape of Europe from these high-ceilinged rooms.
