Café Procope

Café Procope opened its doors in sixteen eighty-six, and it fundamentally changed how Parisians spent their time. Before its arrival, coffee was an exotic novelty, but the founder, a Sicilian immigrant named Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli, transformed it into the center of a social ritual. He abandoned the cramped, dark style of earlier kiosks and instead installed crystal chandeliers, wall mirrors, and marble tables. This luxurious setting drew in the city's intellectual elite, turning the establishment into a hub for philosophers, writers, and revolutionaries.
