Fontaine de la Roquette

The Fontaine de la Roquette was built in eighteen forty-six to provide a critical source of water to the densely populated Faubourg Saint Antoine district. It draws its design inspiration from an older fountain of the same style, which dates back to the reign of King Louis the Fifteenth. Though it remains a decorative landmark on the street today, the fountain no longer supplies water. It stands as a reminder of a time when the surrounding area relied on these public structures for daily survival.
