The name Bateaux Mouches has nothing to do with insects. It originates from the La Mouche district of Lyon, where shipyards produced small, swift passenger boats in the nineteenth century. These vessels were brought to Paris for the 1867 Universal Exhibition, and the name followed them to the capital, where they became a permanent fixture for river travel.
