This park dates back to eighteen seventy-nine, when it was originally established as Square Tenon, named in honor of the surgeon Jacques-René Tenon. It sits directly between the town hall of the twentieth arrondissement and the Tenon hospital. The space later adopted its current name to commemorate Édouard Vaillant, a influential socialist politician who represented this very district and served as a municipal councilor starting in eighteen eighty-four.
