Belleville Park

Belleville Park sits on a steep slope, marked by a long, cascading fountain that drops through the center of the lawn. Before this public space opened in nineteen eighty-eight, the hilltop held a rough collection of shanties and industrial workshops. City planners cleared those structures to create a terrace offering an expansive view over the roofs of Paris. A single stump of an ancient grapevine remains on the hillside, a remnant of the vineyards that once covered these slopes before the city expanded outward.
